Plans for the poor in city: Sugumar
The chairman said his committee would be dealing with all sections of the society that needed help with social welfare. He said its major functions would be to empower individuals with skills for livelihood.
He said they would provide driving lessons to the unemployed and needy youth, help the differentlyabled with their needs or be more independent. He said they would also provide sewing machines to women, train them to run beauty parlours and teach other skills for survival.
“The committee has provided push carts to the needy people,” he said.
Speaking about the problems before the committee, he said: “The benefits are not reaching the poor.”
He said he would lead his committee with compassion for the poor and do what he can in his power to ensure that he could improve their lives.
“We aim to reach everyone on the footpath and others who need the help,” he said.
Reflecting upon the discrepancies that took place when the committee did not exist, he said he would not worry too much about the discrepancies that occurred earlier.
“I would like to concentrate on what can be done and not what has already been done,” he said and assured that they would take suggestions from senior colleagues, private organisations and locals to ensure that everyone is benefited without any bias or discrimination.
