PMC gives green signal to solar city report
PUNE: The general body of the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) on
Tuesday gave its go-ahead to draft a detailed project report (DPR) for
Pune’s solar city project.”The project, an initiative of the central government, aims at reducing the use of electricity and reducing the carbon footprint,” said Mahesh Pathak during the general body meeting.
He said the three main sources of carbon production in the environment
were transportation, water treatment plants and electricity. The project
aims at reducing this carbon production. The project will also
concentrate on promoting renewable energy sources such as solar energy with the aim to reduce usage of electricity by at least 10 per cent.
“The DPR will highlight how to promote solar energy and how to reduce
the electricity usage of streetlights and other public lighting systems.
The central government will give funds for the DPR,” Pathak said.
