Police book Mira-Bhayander municipal chief, five others
Mira-Bhayander Municipal Commissioner Shivmurti Naik and five others have been booked under the Prevention of Atrocity Act following directions from the Thane metropolitan magistrate.
Complainant Seema Jadhav (32), who owns an ancestral plot in Mira Road, claimed Arun Bhoomi Corporation had filed an application with the corporation declaring that it had purchased the plot and planned to construct a building there.
But the developer had bought the one-acre plot from the members of her joint family, without her consent, she claimed.
After Jadhav complained to the municipal corporation, she received a summon on November, 26, 2009, asking her to report to the municipal commissioner the next day, said her lawyer Santosh Pandey.
When Jadhav reached Naik’s office, there was no one to attend to her, but Assistant Director (Town Planning) Uttareshwar Londhe heard her case.
But the same day, she learnt that an ex-parte order for the building plan had already been passed on November 26, 2009.
“When we checked the records, we found that the order was made based on a summon sent to us. But we had never received this summon,” said Pandey. “ How can they pass an order a day before?”
Jadhav approached the metropolitan magistrate who directed the Kashmira police on Monday to file a first information report against Naik, Londhe and the developer.
Naik did not respond to calls made by Hindustan Times, while the other alleged accused were unavailable for comment.
Superintendent of Police (Thane rural) Madhukar Pandey refused to comment.
