Polling peaceful in Bellary

BELLARY: Polling went peacefully for the byelections held at the Bellary City Corporation on Sunday. Around 74 per cent polling was recorded in Bellary city, where byelections were held in the first and 19th wards.
Byelections had to be held to fill the vacancy in the first ward when G. Somashekhar Reddy resigned to contest in the elections to the Assembly and in 19th ward, which fell vacant following the murder of G. Padmavati Yadav. Both the wards were represented by the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party.
The voter turnout was 76 per cent in the first ward and 73 per cent in the 19th ward.
Other wards
In the byelections held for two more wards of the Siruguppa Pattana Panchayat, around 75 per cent of the electorate cast their votes.
In 15th ward, the voter turnout was 86 per cent while it was 85 per cent for the 23rd ward.
