Staff Correspondent
MYSORE: The byelection from Ward No. 41 of the Mysore City Corporation (MCC) was held here on Tuesday. Polling was peaceful and no untoward incidents were reported.
The byelection was necessitated by the disqualification of M. Narayanappa, who was elected from the ward on a BJP ticket, for filing a false caste certificate.
Prominent players in the fray are R. Srinivas of the BJP, R. Ravindra Kumar of the Congress and S. Swamy of the JD(S). Two independents, Kiran Kumar and Annaiahswamy, are also testing the waters.
Voting began on a dull note but picked up later, and moderate polling was recorded.
A holiday was declared for public offices, Central government offices, industries, schools and colleges in the ward in view of the byelection. Following a notification issued by the State Government, holiday was also declared for all the banks and LIC offices in the ward limits to facilitate voting.
Gandhinagar, Mohammed Sait Block, Veeranagere, Sattar Sait Block, Lourdnagar and Annammageri fall within the ward limits.
