Power plans of health committee
Then, it took the Palike more than six months to have the Standing Committees and their heads in place.
Now, with the panels in place, in accordance with the Karnataka Municipal Corporation Act, 1976, the ruling party will not be able to hide behind any excuses for delaying development works across the city.
In this series, Express will introduce the city to the chairmen of the 12 standing committees and what they plan to achieve during their tenure.
Lighting up with a bright ideaManjunath Reddy, the Bommanahalli corporator, is the new Health committee chairman.
Reddy promises to not just rid the city of all its health concerns, but also light up the city while he is at it.
“We aim to produce electricity from garbage,” Reddy said, adding that it was his first aim. “If we can generate electricity, then there will be no garbage on the streets,” he said.
Stressing on the effective implementation of solidwaste management (SWM), he said he would aim at increasing awareness among the people to better understand their role in keeping the city clean and healthy. “We will join hands with officials and locals to organise awareness programmes,” he said and added that people would be made responsible for the garbage in the areas.
“We aim to set up wardwise garbage segregation units,” he said and added that they would ensure that there was one unit in every ward for segregation.
He said they would also push for wardwise tenders for garbage disposal to ensure that there was effective cleaning in all wards and the contracts were divided equally.
On the conditions of BBMP hospitals, he said they would conduct inspections of all Palike health centres. Reddy said he would try to form committees in each ward to oversee and monitor the progress of works relating to the health committee.
