Private bus operator gets HDMC notice
The protest march organised by the KSRTC Staff and
Workers Federation against unauthorised private bus operators seems to
have made some impact.
While the Hubli-Dharwad
Municipal Corporation (HDMC) has issued notices to a private bus
operator for running bus stations without permission and a land owner
for allowing their lands to be used for the purpose, officials of the
Regional Transport Office have seized 24 vehicles and imposed penalty on
them.
The HDMC on Wednesday evening served notices
on Rani Chennamma Bus Services, which operates buses to various
destinations. The manager of Sujata Talkies has also been slapped with a
notice for allowing their land to be used as a bus-station for private
bus operators. They have been told that if they failed to approach the
authorities seeking permission, action would be taken against them as
per the provisions of the Karnataka Municipal Corporations Act. Managing
director of North West Karnataka Road Transport Corporation too had
sought action against private operators. According to the KSRTC Staff
and Workers Federation and NWKRTC officials, the NWKRTC is incurring
losses to the tune of Rs. 40 lakhs to Rs. 50 lakhs a day because of
private bus operators.
