Project progress at click of a mouseNov. 2: Fed up with delayed projects in the city resulting in traffic chaos? Bengalureans can now monitor the progress of infrastructure projects at the click of a mouse. And that’s not it.
The people can also post their comments on the cost, deadline and quality of the project on the interactive website launched by BBMP. Citizens can also urge the civic body to get things done on time.
In a month’s time, citizens can check the cost, completion date and quality of the project by just logging onto BBMP’s official website ww.bbmp.gov.in and click on Web Based Project Management System (WBPMS).
In a bid to bring in transparency in public domain, BBMP has provided the link to its website with the help of the Karnataka Police Housing Corporation, said BBMP engineer-in-chief A.K. Gopala Swamy.
“BBMP has already updated details and status of the projects that have been taken up since 2008 till 2010. Over 20,000 works including ward work, flyovers, grade separators and work on storm water drains have been posted on the website. However, at present, the details are not available for the public. It will be made available in the next one month after taking BBMP commissioner Siddaiah’s approval,” said Mr Swamy.
Details like the name of the contractor, commencement date of the project and deadline will help whistle blowers and active resident welfare associations to track the progress of the work. Uploading project details through (WBPMS) helps prevent adverse cost implications on BBMP and also time overruns, according to BBMP officials.
WBPMS supports streaming video, virtual walkthroughs and images which help in making realistic assessment of the progress and also provides proactive alerts in respect of milestone slippages likely to cause cost overruns, as well as other risks and quality issues, added officials.
Public can also upload photographs and feedbacks to ensure that the work proceeds in the desired direction, they said.
