GHMC to give 811 prizes next year in view of the extended jurisdiction
All tax-payers paying their tax on or before March 31 are eligible for draw
HYDERABAD: A. Padma would have never even dreamt that by paying a mere Rs. 134 as property tax for the year 2008-2009, she will become a lakhpati! She became one on Monday when she bagged the first bumper prize of Rs.1 lakh in a lucky draw held at the GHMC head office.
Mayor B. Karthika Reddy took out the draw and gave away the prize-winning cheque to the resident of Chilkalnagar, Uppal. M. Hanumantha Rao of Mallepally and Manoj Patel of Barkatpura bagged the second prize of Rs. 25,000 each; P.V.D. Prasad of Vanasthapuri Colony, P. Papi Reddy of Srinivasanagar Colony, Raja Chaturbhuj Dass of Sultan Bazar, Raja Sadhana Gandra of Kukatpally and S. Vani of Punjagutta bagged the third prize of Rs. 10,000 each.
Ten others won the fourth prize of Rs. 15,000 each and 375 consolation prizes of Rs. 2,000 each were also announced. Altogether, there were 393 prizes worth Rs. 10 lakh. SBH Dy. General Manager Rajni Mishra handed over the prize money to Commissioner Sameer Sharma.
The Mayor said prize money for next year (2009-10) has been enhanced to Rs. 20 lakh with 811 prizes in view of the extended jurisdiction of GHMC and all tax-payers paying their tax on or before March 31 are eligible for winning the cash prizes.
Tax payers who have paid tax in full with arrears if any, along with penal interest, are alone eligible for the draw, said Mr. Sharma. Tax payers can verify payment details from their nearest GHMC office or www. ghmc.gov.in.
