The New Indian Express 01.04.2013
The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) has collected a
record property tax of Rs 780 crore for the financial year 2012-13 as
against the previous year collection of Rs 634 crore.
There is an increase to the tune of nearly Rs 146 crore and plus.
The
collection figures are likely to increase further as the house owners
and tenants are still making online payments, handing over the cheques’
and money at the citizens’ service centres at the circle offices till
the last report came in.
Final figures would be announced in the next two days.
The GHMC through Building Penalisation Scheme (BPS) collected about Rs 72 crore.
Similarly,
Layout Regularisation Scheme (LRS) collection was to the tune of Rs 150
crore, advertisement tax of Rs 27 crore as against Rs 22 crore last
year and trade license collection was nearly Rs 25.22 crore as against
Rs 21 crore last year.
The GHMC officials told Express that it
could collect more property tax this year as it could convince the
Central government institutions like defence organisations, BSNL,
centralised Banks and others through series of meetings to pay their
dues.
The contributions from the government institutions were almost negligible in the previous years.
