The City Corporation will ensure its support if the committee
appointed by the government for the scientific management of dog
population in the state helps in improving the veterinary wing of the
civic body by providing enough doctors.
“The committee members
told us that they could provide enough veterinary doctors for carrying
out the animal birth control activities here. They also suggested that
killing of animals without taking steps to save them from pain at
slaughter houses functioning illegally should be stopped,” said Mayor K
Chandrika.
The team also discussed with the Mayor ways to catch
the aggressive street dogs which harm people and subject them to birth
control measures. After visiting the two veterinary hospitals and one
slaughter house in the city, the team had held a discussion with the
Mayor the other day.
The team consisted of members of the Health
Department, Animal Husbandry Department and Animal Welfare Board of
India under the Ministry of Environment and Forests and the City
Corporation. The team pointed out the flaws in utilising the
well-equipped veterinary hospitals without enough manpower.
After
visiting the five Corporations in the state and assessing their
facilities there, the committee will submit a report to the government.
