Pune Marathon spending: Cong says civic standing committee satisfied, others seek details

Pune: The Congress on Tuesday tried to cover up the failure of organisers of Pune international marathon to submit the expenses of Rs 45 lakh handed over by the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) for the sports event.“The PMC standing committee is satisfied with the submission of the organisers on the spending of the civic fund. The civic body is supposed to spend 5 per cent of the budgetary allocation for promoting sports,” said committee chairman and Congress leader Arvind Shinde.
Some activists had urged the civic administration to seek details of the spending of civic funds for the event in the last five years. Independent corporator Ujjwal Keskar said the organisers have not furnished the expenditure of the Rs 45 lakh spent for the event. The administration has been asked to get the account statement from the organisers, he added.
