The Hyderabad circle of roads and buildings department will
henceforth work under the supervision of Greater Hyderabad Municipal
Corporation.
Roads and Buildings department superintendent
engineer and executive engineers will work as per the instructions of
municipal commissioner MT Krishna Babu in regard to maintenance of
R&B roads in Greater Hyderabad limits and an office will be provided
to them in the GHMC office for better coordination.
A decision to
this effect was taken by chief minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy at a
review meeting on the road works held with ministers and officials at
the Secretariat on Friday.
As many 19 arterial roads having a length of 198.48 km in GHMC limits belong to R&B.
Their
major stretches have been battered by incessant rains in the last one
month and there is a delay on the part of R&B to repair them.
Though
some the battered roads belong to R&B, the GHMC is receiving flak
from the citizens that it is not recarpeting the damaged roads.
GHMC officials said any damages to roads have to be repaired by the respective departments.
Yet, GHMC is filling up the potholes and making the roads motorable so that people are not put to inconvenience.
The
municipal corporation officials told Express that with the government
now directing the R&B’s Hyderabad Circle to work under the
supervision of GHMC commissioner, M T Krishna Babu, this would help in
proper coordination between the two departments in taking up recarpeting
of the damaged roads in the twin cities to avoid inconvenience to the
motorists.
