Rajasthan civic bodies polls peaceful

JAIPUR: Polling for 126 civic bodies, including the Ajmer Municipal Corporation and the municipal councils of Bhilwara and Kishengarh, got over peacefully in Rajasthan on Wednesday. There was no major untoward incident reported from any of the 31 districts where polling was held. Overall 72.34 per cent of the 34.69 lakh voters cast their votes.
Incessant rain in certain parts of the State, including Jaipur and Sikar districts, did not deter the voters. The maximum polling of 85.68 per cent was reported in the northern district of Sriganganagar followed by Chittorgarh which polled 84.71 per cent. As many as half a dozen districts, including the tribal district of Banswara (81.69 per cent) and the border district of Jaisalmer (80.68 per cent), recorded above 80 per cent polling.
Another six districts—Udaipur, Pratapgargh, Kota, Jodhpur, Jaipur and Alwar—recorded above 75 per cent polling.
Among them Alwar recorded a maximum of 79.80 polling, followed by 78.69 per cent in Jaipur and 76.97 per cent in Kota. Udaipur district recorded a polling of 76.56 per cent and Jodhpur, 75.64 per cent.
The districts of Rajasamand, Jhalawar, Baran, Bikaner, Bundi, Dausa, Jhunjhunu, and Nagaur recorded polling percentages ranging from 70.60 to 74.85. The polling percentage was comparatively low in the districts of Ajmer (60.41 per cent) and Sawai Madhopur (62.02 per cent). Pali district registered 65.71 per cent polling and Karauli 65.58 per cent.
The counting of votes is scheduled for Friday.
