Regularisation of GHMC contract staff sought
Special Correspondent
HYDERABAD: The Bhagyanagar Municipal GHMC Employees Union has sought regularisation of services of the 23,000 contract labour working in different wings for the last two decades.
In a memorandum submitted to the Minister for Municipal Administration & Urban Development, A. Ramnarayan Reddy, on Monday, Union General Secretary P. Ram Reddy and others explained that the contract staff was working in areas of sweeping, sanitation, transport, malaria control, etc., for several years on meagre wages without any concomitant employee benefits. Each year, contractors have been changing because of fresh tenders being called but workers have remained the same. Families of the contract labour were in distress, the union said.
