The election code of conduct is expected to come into effect anytime next week. Meanwhile, the City Corporation is hurrying with inaugurations and laying of foundation stones. The plan process is also being hurried, with the Council meeting almost every week approving dozens of projects to be submitted to the DPC (District Planning Committee).
This time, government had amalgamated five panchayats with the Corporation – Vattiyoorkavu, Vizhinjam, Kudappanakkunnu, Sreekariyam and Kazhakkootam. From 86, the Corporation is now a 100-ward local body. With the bigger picture now out, the coming days would see political parties racking their brains to fill the seats with competent women. For sure, it would not be an easy job.
