Residents silently protest tree felling in city

The trees that will be felled bear posters that read “Save us”, “Do not cut me” and “Let me live”. Hamid, a resident of Munireddypalya, said it was good to notice that some active residents had come up with this idea of pasting the banners to attract people’s attention towards the trees’ impending felling.

Meanwhile, a group of five students have taken it upon themselves to apprise the residents about tree felling. One of the students, Preran Chowdary of St Joseph’s College, said they had been going door to door to create awareness among the residents about the city corporation’s plan to axe the trees.

Hamid said the trees on the stretch were almost 100 years old and the Palike should try to save them. He noted that Bangalore was slowly losing its greenery in the name of development. He said he would definitely lend his support to any drive to save the trees.

Vinay of Hasiru Usiru, an environmental group, said in a couple of days, they would conduct a public meeting and rally to protest chopping down of trees to widen the road.
