Results of six wards announced; waiting for deputy mayoral elections
The result of six
wards of Ranchi Municipal Corporation (RMC) was finally declared today
thus paving the way for the constitution of RMC board.
The declaration has also paved the way for the election of Deputy Mayor
which is scheduled on May 9, the first meeting of the RMC board. The
State Election Commission had prevented the counting of votes in six
wards on April 11 after a few electronic voting machines (EVM)
containing mayoral votes were open inadvertently.
Out of the six wards, voters of two wards have elected their previous
councillors again, one is wife of a previous ward councilor, and two
have won for the first time.
The winners of the six wards- 5, 13, 28, 42, 50, 52. The victory for
some of them is an opportunity to prove their worth while for others it
is time to eye the coveted post of Deputy Mayor. Elated with his success
winner of ward-28 Ashok Baraik said, “There is nothing like winning and
I am relieved, honoured and can feel the responsibility on my
shoulders.” For Baraik wait has made success sweeter than anything.
“(Der aaye durust aaye) It’s better late than never”, added Baraik. He
is likely to contest for the post of Deputy Mayor.
The winner of ward-13 feels that late result has dampened the mood to
some extent. “I would have been happier had the result come on time”,
said Sandhya Rani Guha, wife of previous ward councilor, Mrinal Guha,
said her doors are open to all and will try to do better than her
husband.
