RMC cancels Bara-talab boating facility tender
Corporation (RMC) on Thursday cancelled the licence of the park built
near Ranchi Lake supposedly for flouting the norms laid in the terms and
condition of their tender. The RMC will take over the facility and will
run it as per the operating guidelines to be decided by the Standing
Council in its next meeting.
The municipal body will begin acquisition of the property in another
two to three days and it likely to complete the process in a fortnight. “The
boating facility definitely ignored safety concerns. The reply to the
notice was not satisfactory hence the Standing Council decided to cancel
the license of the facility,” said Arun Jha, a member of the council.
The RMC’s decision came in the wake of suo moto cognisance by the
Jharkhand High Court which issued notice to the municipal body seeking
clarification by the latter about the terms and conditions for issuing
license for operating a boating facility. The
boating facility shot to infamy on December 16 when an overloaded boat
capsized in the lake throwing as many as 17 people including Additional
Chief Secretary Sajal Chakraborty in the water leaving four dead and
others injured in the incident. According to sources, the boating
facility allegedly did not inform the RMC about inauguration of the
facility besides failing to ensure proper security arrangements and
providing insurance cover to the people on board the ill-fated board.
Incidentally, the RMC Standing Council also decided to construct as
many as 14 model toilets in different zones of the city besides ensuring
proper functioning of as many as 25 high mast lights spread across the
city.
