Rs 18.5L allocated for cleaning works
KOCHI:
Kochi corporation will receive more funds for pre-monsoon cleaning this
year. A decision has been taken to increase the amount given to each
division of Kochi corporation from Rs 10,000 to Rs 25,000. This was
taken at a high-level meeting convened by chief minister Oommen Chandy and attended by Mayor Tony Chammany on Wednesday. The National
Rural Health Mission (NRHM) and Suchitwa Mission will provide Rs 10,000
each and the corporation will chip in Rs 5,000 for each division. There
are 74 divisions in the corporation. Local bodies have been given
instructions to take urgent steps to start pre-monsoon cleaning within
two weeks. The meeting also decided to give cash award to the local body
which puts up the best performance in cleaning activities and hygiene.
“The meeting decided on joint efforts by local bodies and the health
department to ensure hygiene in the district. The Kerala Water Authority
(KWA) officials who attended the meeting were asked to take immediate
measures to provide clean water during summer,” said Dr Junaid Rehman,
district medical officer, Ernakulam.

Cleaning and awareness programmes will be started in all civic bodies in the district.
Kudumbashree workers will visit households as part of the campaign.
