secretary, who, after getting convinced with the project report
submitted, will now forward it to the state cabinet.
Sources in the district collectorate said the project will be formally
approved soon but refused to specify the scheduled date of the project
getting the cabinet’s nod.
Paithan, situated on the banks of
river Godavari, is around 55 kms from Aurangabad. Every year, millions
of devotees from across the country visit Paithan and Apegaon for their
religious significance.
The Paithan-Apegaon Development
Authority (PADP), established by the state government in January 2011,
under the chairmanship of the Aurangabad district collector was funded
with Rs 5 crore within two months of its formation. An amount of Rs 18
crore was given to the authority in March 2012 to start work.
The newly-appointed district collector, Vikram Kumar, said, “The
authority till date has received Rs 23 crore of the Rs 209.92-crore
project reports submitted. Out of the amount received an amount of Rs
20.32 crore has been disbursed to the authorities and we are in the
process of disbursing the remaining Rs 2.68 crore to get the scheduled
works completed.”
When asked about monitoring the work, Kumar
said, “Keeping in mind the religious significance the destination has,
our topmost priority is to complete the project by maintaining the best
quality of work and within the stipulated time allotted to us, for which
we will deploy the officials we have.”
Talking about the
status of the projects initiated in the past two years, additional
collector Kisanrao Lawande said, “Till February 2013, the upgradation of
the infrastructure of Nath temple, upgradation of cables, roads from
Khandoba temple to Nath temple
and installation of four high masts have been completed, while the road
from Apegaon to Mandir Road, water supply scheme for Nath temple, watch
towers for the police and signboard works will soon be completed.”
Lawande added that the other parts of the project, like the facility
centre at Paithan, construction of entrance gates at Paithan and
Apegaon, underground drainage and six roads are under the tendering
process. He said the PADP project will get a special team to execute the
proposed development plan, once it gets the cabinet’s approval.
