Vishwa Kundapura
KOLAR: With the State Government sanctioning Rs. 21 crore, Kolar Gold Fields (KGF) in the district is set to get a facelift. The fund was sanctioned under Karnataka Municipal Reforms Project (KMRP) and the work is likely to be launched within a month.
According to Robertsonpet (KGF) City Municipal Council commissioner R.S. Yerrappa, roads and drains in the city would be developed by utilising these funds. Slum eradication was another priority under this project, he said. A sum of Rs. 12.81 crore would be spent on development of roads, drains and slums.
The urban body planned to implement rainwater harvesting (RWH) in an effective manner to tackle water woes in the area. About Rs. 70 lakh had been earmarked for rainwater harvesting projects. Twenty-seven various government office prmises spread over the city were identified for setting up rainwater harvesting units, Mr. Yerrappa said.
Mandatory
Rainwater harvesting was likely to be made mandatory in KGF. Permission would be given for construction of new houses only if adequate space was provided for the same. He said every household should come forward to make the rainwater harvesting programme a success in the town.
Steps would be taken to mitigate the drinking water problem. Motors would be fitted for 119 tubewells in the city. According to Mr. Yerrappa, a programme would be chalked out to utilise the Palar river water near Krishnavaram to supply water to KGF city and erstwhile mining areas.
Eviction
Mr. Yerrappa appealed to the residents to cooperate in executing development works under KMRP by voluntarily removing the encroachments.
If the owners did not oblige, the CMC would take action in accordance with the rulings of Supreme Court for eviction, he said.
