Rs. 3.95 crore for improving basic amenities
The Karur Municipality has decided to improve basic
amenities in the civic areas at a total cost of Rs. 3.95 crore in the
months ahead. Now, the peripheral areas annexed to form the unified and
enlarged municipality will have facilities available in the core areas.
Some
months ago, the previous DMK regime merged Karur, Inam Karur and
Thanthoni municipality, and Sanapiratti village panchayat, to form an
enlarged Karur Municipality for better administration. The new Karur
Municipal Council came into being with 48 wards.
However,
several councillors and people had been demanding that the State
government, the municipal administration, and Water Supply Department,
bring parity in amenities among the areas.
The Karur
Municipal Council at its recent meeting passed a resolution to seek and
allot Rs. 3.95 crore for developing basic amenities in the
lesser-developed areas.
A slew of measures
The
plan envisages storm water drains, concrete roads, black-topped roads,
minor bridges, and drinking water facility. If the resolution comes to
life, then areas such as Thathonrimalai and Sanapiratti besides the
peripheral rural areas abutting them shall get a boost in sporting
amenities.
Each ward will get between Rs. 8 lakh and
Rs. 12 lakh depending on the requirement. Utilising the fund, a compound
wall would be constructed around the Gandhigram playground at a cost of
Rs. 16.30 lakh.
A specific sum will be allotted from the amount to remove the stray pig menace.
