Salem city to get 15 Amma Unavagams soon
Very soon, the city residents would taste the Re. 1
idli, Rs. 3 sambar and Rs. 5 curd rice as the Corporation has identified
15 places for establishing the budget canteens, Amma Unavagam.
After
the success of ‘Amma Unavagam’ in Chennai, the Chief Minister had
announced that all the Corporations would have such canteens.
Hence,
a team of officials from the Corporation recently visited the canteens
in Chennai to study about its functioning, the ingredients used and
preparation methods and the quality of food served besides management of
such canteens.
Based on the study, the civic body
has prepared an initial plan to establish 15 canteens in the city with
four canteens in each zone in Hasthampatti, Kondalampatti and Ammapet
while Suramangalam will have three.

Members
of self-help groups will be vested with the task of preparing the food
in time without compromising on quality while the Corporation will
provide land and monitor the whole activities.

that a report had been submitted to the government for establishing 15 canteens, of which five would be started in Phase I.
