Scheme road plan in final stages
Proposal to link Tiruchi Road with Vellalore Road
The Coimbatore Corporation will soon place before the
Council a proposal to finalise the scheme road that links Tiruchi Road
with Vellalore Road.
According to Corporation
Commissioner T.K. Ponnusamy the road is one of the five the civic body
is taking up this year, in keeping with Mayor S.M. Velusamy’s proposal
to take up five scheme roads every year.
Near flyover
The
proposed scheme road, which will be 40-foot wide, will branch off the
Tiruchi Road, behind the Plague Mariamman Temple, proceed along the
eastern bund of the Singanallur Tank and the touch the Vellalore Road
near the flyover that is under construction.
In the process of laying the road, the Corporation will have to acquire a few private lands.Mr. Ponnusamy says that the civic body would need to acquire around 1.63 lakh sq.ft. to make the 1.3 km road a reality.
At the current guideline rate the Corporation will be forced to spend Rs. 1.64 crore out of its pocket. Some
portions of the land that need to be acquired either belong to the
Revenue Department or are poromboke lands (vari poromboke).
Sources
in the Corporation said that the Corporation would use the fund
available with the Local Planning Authority or seek the State
Government’s help under the Infrastructure Gap Filling Fund.
This
scheme road is expected to ease the traffic congestion at the
Singanallur junction as vehicles proceeding to Vellalore need not reach
the junction, wait at the signal and then take a right turn. This will
be of great help to the residents of the area, says S.M. Samy,
councillor.
Proposal
The
other scheme road proposal linking Thadagam Road with Chetti Street is
under the consideration of the district administration.
