‘Send back non-local staff in GHMC’
HYDERABAD: Telangana activists and staff of the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) have threatened to bring all sanitation and developmental works to a grinding halt in the city if non-local officers working on deputation in GHMC are not repatriated to their parent departments.
Telangana JAC convener Prof Kodandaram along with TRS MLA Etela Rajender and others met GHMC commissioner Sameer Sharma in the GHMC head office today and issued an ultimatum to send back non-locals working in the GHMC.
The leaders demanded that the commissioner submit a white paper on the non-locals working in the corporation in 24 hours failing which the GHMC employees from Telangana region would go on a ‘pen down’ strike on Saturday marking the beginning of the agitation. It is reported that a large number of non-local officers hailing from different government departments have been working on deputation in different wings of the corporation for several years despite completing their three-year term affecting the promotional avenues of GHMC officers.
The JAC members told the commissioner that some officers were coming on deputation to GHMC despite Municipal Administration and Urban Department (MAUD)’s instructions against allowing deputations in engineering cadre.
Two executive engineers from Agriculture and Cooperation departments had extended their tenure to work in GHMC without the consent of GHMC authorities and concurrence of the Municipal Administration and Urban Department (MAUD) spoiling the chances of the departmental engineers who had been expecting a promotion for a long time, they said.
The commissioner has assured them of look into the issue and taking necessary action to repatriate the officers working on deputation back to their parent departments.
