Seven corporation schools, maternity centres to have incinerators

To ensure environment-friendly disposal of sanitary
napkins, seven corporation schools and maternity centres in the
corporation limits is all set to have incinerators, each to be purchased
at a cost of Rs. 70,000.
Of the 82 corporation schools, seven schools are girls higher secondary and the incinerators would be installed there.
In
the first phase, of the 25 maternity centres, seven would have the
facility with the rest would be covered in a phased manner. Disposal
using electric incinerators are easy and environment-friendly as they
convert the napkin into sterile ash and the conversion would take less
than a minute for each napkin.
The move would help in
safe disposal of napkins as the State Government has taken initiative
to provide free sanitary napkins to adolescent girls in all schools.
Corporation officials said that students and the women would be educated
about its usage and the 14 machines would be installed in toilets.
Officials
added that the move would ensure total sanitation in schools and would
also develop healthy behaviour among students. Tenders have been floated
for purchase of machines at a total cost of Rs. 9.80 lakh, they added.
