Shanthinagar residents suffer BBMP apathy
The locals of this ward are also facing problems with the general maintenance of the locality. “The pourakarmikas are not regular with their job, as a result the roads are dirty more often than not. The garbage is disposed by the roadsides and left unattended for days together,” says Shivkumar, a resident of Shanthinagar.
Apart from using the pavements for walking, pedestrians also use it for nature’s call. The stench is unbearable.
Even the children’s park in Shanthinagar has not been taken care of.
The swings are broken and rusted.
And the lawn has not been mowed in days. These make the park highly unfit for children to play in.
Insufficient parking space is also posing a problem for the people of this ward. “As residents of the area, we aren’t able to park more than one vehicle even in front of our houses.
To add to it, the rag pickers also reside in the space allotted for parking,” says Prema, a resident. She also adds that “there is no cover over the drains, as a result of which the area is infested with mosquitoes.” According to corporator P Sowmya, “The sewage pipes have not been changed for the last 20 to 25 years. Rammurthy, the chairman for BWSSB had promised to sanction the funds required for new pipes almost a year ago, but nothing concrete came out of his promise.” Like Shantinagar, even Akkitimmanahalli have trouble on their hands.
“The water supply is very erratic, the roads are broken and filthy and even the streetlights do not work properly,” says Ramkrishana, a resident of Akkitimmanahalli.
