Shimoga CMC to soon be upgraded into City Corporation
Shimoga MLA K.B. Prasanna Kumar has said that the State
government will soon commence the formalities on upgrading Shimoga City
Municipal Council (CMC) into a City Corporation. On December 20, the
State government had issued a gazette notification on upgrading Shimoga
CMC into City Corporation.
The State government will issue notification on re-classification of wards in the city, he said here on Wednesday.
Chief Minister Siddaramaiah had announced the upgrade in the budget of the year 2013-14.
The
State government has also allocated an amount of Rs.100 crore for
Shimoga city under Chief Minister’s Small and Medium Towns Development
Project (CMSMTDP) for the purpose of upgrade. The Shimoga CMC will
undertake the works of upgrading road network and drainage system in the
city with the amount.
The CMC has already prepared an action plan for the works that can be undertaken with the amount, he said.
An
amount of Rs 4.25 crore will be used to construct a pedestrian path
along Sagar Road, Milaghatta Road and the road in front of Shimoga City
Municipal Council. An amount of Rs 4 crore will be reserved to widen
Milaghatta road. With the objective to promote cycling, a cycle track
will be constructed along Sagar Road at the cost of Rs 80 lakh. In
addition to this, a parking lot and a pedestrian over bridge will be
constructed near Ashoka Circle, he said.
Mr. Kumar
said that, drinking water and drainage facilities will be provided to
the residential areas in the outskirts of the city under CMCMTDP. An
amount of Rs 9 crore has been reserved to provide drinking water
facility for Tevarachatnahalli, Sahyadri Nagar, Navule, Sominakoppa,
Wadi-E-Huda, Kuvempu Nagar localities and underground drainage facility
will be provided for Navule, Sominakoppa and Malligenahalli localities,
he said.
