Standing Committee resolutions in limbo
The 15th ordinary meeting of the Standing Committee, under chairmanship of the mayor Banda Karthika Reddy, while reviewing Action Taken Report (ATR) by respective head of departments (HoDs), found majority of resolutions were not implemented.
When questioned by the mayor and committee members, senior officials failed to give convincing replies on resolutions passed by the committee several months ago.
“It is unfortunate that important resolutions like construction of Mahila Bhavans, providing night shelters for street children and beggars and construction of rain water harvesting structures in parks and playgrounds, had not been implemented,” Karthika Reddy said.
“This is nothing but an insult to members of the Standing Committee and add to that, several senior officers are skipping the meetings,” she added.
There is a lack of coordination among different wings resulting in delay of works. Corporators of all parties had complained that even after approval of resolutions, they were not being implemented, rued the mayor. If they are not implemented properly, we will make sure action is taken against concerned officials, she added.
BAN ON PLASTIC IN PARKS: Karthika Reddy said the Standing Committee had approved ban on plastic bags in parks maintained by the GHMC. It will come into force from November 14 and in colony parks from January 1, 2011.
