Standing Panel chair for Congress after 17 years

As there were no other nominations other than the ones decided by the respective parties, the election was just a formality,  where the returning officer declared the nominees elected. CPM’s Pushpalatha, V S Padmakumar, K S Sheela and Sajitha Nazer are the Health, Works, Education and Development Standing Committee Chairpersons respectively. Palayam Rajan (Congress-S) is the Welfare Standing Committee Chairman and Shyamkumar (RSP) is the Tax and Appeal Committee Chairman.

After the election, the new Chairpersons were shown their rooms by the officials. Accompanied by Mayor K Chandrika and Deputy Mayor Happykumar, the Chairpersons were handed over bouquets and led to their rooms.  The extra room for Education Standing Committee Chairperson (this is a newly created chair) was prepared by dividing the Tax Committee room.

With the elections over, it is now time for the new Council to act. The EMS Housing Scheme, pension distribution, Vilappilsala issue, street dog menace…there are many matters awaiting attention. With the Council hanging on a single-seat majority for the LDF, any sort of complacency would land the ruling party in trouble.
