Pune: The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) standing committee on Tuesday directed the civic administration to table a report on the number of no objection certificates issued by the civic fire department to buildings over 15 metres tall and constructed after 1997.“The state government has issued a government resolution on ensuring two staircases for buildings of 15 metres and above. However, the norm existed in the development control rules of the civic body since 1997 but it seems no objection certificate were issued without fulfilling the rules,” said Arvind Shinde, chairman of the committee.
He said the administration has been asked to submit a detailed report with number of high rise buildings without two staircases and the date of issuing of no objection certificate. The committee would initiate action against the civic officers responsible of ignoring the rule of two staircase and issuing no objection certificate for the building, Shinde said the buildings and developers would be issued notices for violating the rules.
The developer are getting floor space index for the staircase construction but dont follow the norm as it increases the construction cost, he added. He state government decision for two staircase had come to ensure multiple exit point in a high rise building during emergency situation.
