State to address staff shortage in local bodies
Staff Reporter
KOCHI: Planning Board member C.P. Narayanan has said that the State government will soon appoint officials in local bodies facing acute staff shortage. According to him, the shortage had affected the implementation of plan programmes.
Mr. Narayanan was addressing a meeting held at the conference hall of the district collectorate to review the plan programme implementation of local bodies recently.
He said that there were no hindrances in constructing up to two-storied buildings for fishing workers in areas coming under the coastal regulation zone. It was under this provision that houses were build alongside the sea shore itself for the tsunami-affected.
He, however, said that efforts would be made to remove the hurdles in the construction of houses for the poor belonging to other categories.
Local body officials complained that shortage of building materials had affected the implementation of various housing schemes. Mr. Narayanan said that district panchayat president and the district collector would find a solution to the problems through consultations.
