Steps in place for Warkari event

The PMC has taken steps to provide safety and medical facilities to warkaris during the annual procession from Alandi and Dehu to Pandharpur via city from July 5-8. “Extra efforts will be made to ensure better medical facilities to all the devotees.
The civic body will provide round-the-clock health facilities in the civic hospital during this period and would send its mobile dispensary along with the devotees till Pandharpur,” said Mayor Mohansingh Rajpal.
He said the administration is expecting more devotees this year due to a good start of monsoon.
The civic administration will sterilise all stray animals in the city so that there is no spread of any disease, Rajpal said, adding the devotees will be given free medication at all its hospital during the period. The PMC would also appeal to the devotees to be more vigilant to avoid any untoward incident, he said, adding the batches going for the pilgrimage will be asked to give identification tags to all its members.
The civic body would also station its security personnel on the entire route of palkhi in its jurisdiction with specific directions to them to be in constant touch with the nearest police station.
A 24-hour control room for complaint redressal will be operational at three locations-civic head quarters, Gadital Hospital and Hadapsar ward office- wherein the devotees can contact for help, Rajpal said. The civic staff will undertake work to clean up roads from where the palkhi of Sant Dnyaneshwar and Sant Tukaram passes from the city, he said, adding a review of all the work will be taken on June 25
