Stop slaughter of animals on roadsides
A resident of Chengalpatti Street in Ward 56 has
petitioned the Corporation Commissioner K.R. Selvaraj asking him to stop
wayside slaughtering of animals. Mr. K. Gangadharan, in his petition,
said that cattle were slaughtered on the road, and the waste materials
were dumped on drainages.
He said that over 2,000
students pursue their education in the school in the area, and they were
the most affected. He said that the recent Government Letter No. 24501
dated June 30, 2014 from Meenakshi Rajagopal, Principal Secretary and
Commissioner of Rural Development and Panchayat Raj (Training) and
Director of Rural Development and Panchayat Raj, Chennai, to all
District Collectors called for ensuring proper disposal of solid and
liquid wastes by slaughtering houses.
The letter said
that places near temples, and public roads were used for slaughtering
animals. The letter asked Collectors to prepare a list of all
slaughtering places located within village panchayats in order to ensure
they got license.
