Students clean up zoo
Catering and hotel management students of Hindusthan
College of Arts and Science, on Friday, cleaned the Coimbatore
Corporation Zoo.
According to sources, close to 100
students thoroughly cleaned the zoo removing garbage and filth, clearing
bushes and other unwanted materials from 8am to 3pm. They attended a
talk session on ‘Tourism and Water’, this year’s theme for World Tourism
Day, which fell on September 27, along with few school students. The
zoo authorities had put out information boards highlighting the need for
conserving water.
As part of the World Tourism Day
celebrations, the Department of Tourism held several programmes.
District Tourist Officer P. Vijayakumar said that a rally was taken out
around Racecourse by students of Government Arts College. A seminar on
the topic ‘youth and responsible tourism’ was held later in the day at
the college. Prizes were distributed to the winners of intercollegiate
contests. A total of 83 students took part in the competitions such as
poster and brochure making and quiz contests.
