Surat Municipal Corporation’s anti-mosquito campaign gains momentum
SURAT: As a part of its ongoing campaign, the health department of ( ) carried out surprise checking at around 3.78 lakh spots to bring down the mosquito density under its jurisdiction.
Official
sources said that around 1700 property owners including residents were
served with notices and fine amounting to Rs 3.50 lakh was collected on
the spot.
During the checking drive, the health
officials found mosquito breeding grounds at 2238 spots in the city. Out
of the 2238 spots, there were 1190 breeding grounds of Aedes mosquito
and 850 spots for anopheles mosquitoes.
The health
officials seized and destroyed around 16600 plastic drums, tins, tyres
and flower pots where the mosquito breeding were found and that fogging
exercise was conducted in around 26000 houses in the city.
The
civic body has also asked people to let the mosquito larvae-eating fish
Kampuchea into water bodies in tanks and wells as they will control the
breeding of mosquitoes. The corporation has also asked people with cold
and fever to approach the health centres immediately.
