Tax recovery week in December: MCC Commissioner
As around Rs 200 crore in taxes are due,
Mysore City Corporation (MCC) will recover the taxes during a tax
recovery week in December, said MCC Commissioner P G Ramesh, here on
Tuesday.
Taxes which are due must be compulsorily paid
within the month of December. If not, water connection will be cut off
first, followed by underground drainage. If taxes are not paid then too,
MCC will confiscate the properties where the taxes are kept pending,
warned Ramesh.
Self-declaration tax
being collected as per self-declaration of property taxes, from 2007.
People who do not pay taxes for a particular year are issued a notice
the following year. If they do not pay by June, 20 per cent addition to
the tax amount is made every year, he said.
He also warned revenue inspectors of MCC of with-holding their salaries, if they do not recover the targets set to them.
There
are a total of 1,23,847 residential buildings, 23,620 commercial
buildings, 410 industries and 14,219 vacant sites. From April 1 to
November 23, about 55 per cent of taxes have been collected.
While Rs 88.16 crore is the total amount of taxes, Rs 48.88 crore have been collected, he said.
Water
bills worth Rs 60.14 crore are pending from residential buildings.
Bills of about Rs 23 crore are yet to be collected from industries, he
said. MCC also has to collect Rs 76.65 lakh advertisement tax, he added.
He also revealed that Rs 17.95 crore worth bills and taxes have been kept pending by various government offices in MCC limits.
