TD goes berserk at GHMC meet
December 22nd, 2010
Dec. 21: The
issue of providing succour to farmers provoked ugly and uproarious
scenes in the council meeting of the Greater Hyderabad Municipal
Corporation on Tuesday. Marshals had to be called in to remove agitating
Telugu Desam members while two women corporators from the TD added to
the drama by displaying bleeding scratch marks they said they had
received when women marshals tried to eject them from the council hall.
Ms N. Seshu Kumari and Ms Muta Padma of the TD accused the
mayor and the government of treating them like dogs! Holding out their
hands they pointed to the scratches. “Even dogs are treated better. The
mayor herself is a woman. She has to apologise for allowing marshals to
throw us out,” they said, and alleged that even some male marshals laid
hands on them.
TD corporators shouted slogans of “Chief Minister down,
down”; “Anti-farmer Congress government down, down”, “Mayor down, down”.
They broke mikes and resisted attempts by the marshals to remove them
from the hall.
The drama continued for nearly two hours both inside and outside the council hall and the meeting had to be adjourned twice.
The TD corporators had earlier been suspended by the Mayor for stalling the proceedings.
