TIRUPATTUR: The Tirupattur Municipality has intensified its tax
collection drive. It has asked all assesses to pay the tax amount
immediately to avoid disconnection of water supply and attachment of
property.
The local body has taken up efforts to collect various taxes –
property tax on buildings and vacant sites, water charges, professional
tax and non-tax from municipal limits. The drive also aims at collecting
tax arrears. There are a total of 15,350 households – property tax
assesses – in the municipality limit, a municipal official said.
“We have engaged a vehicle carrying public addressing system to
travel to all areas in Tirupattur town urging assesses to pay the amount
immediately to help the municipality implement development schemes. We
have asked the public to pay tax and avoid disconnection of water supply
and attachment of property. They should cooperate with the
municipality,” the official said.
The local body had to recover tax arrears of Rs. 3.95 crore for
2010-2011, the official said, adding, “only if the public pay tax on
time, we can carry out development works such as laying of roads,
improvement schemes for water supply, etc. We expect to recover the
arrears too through this drive.”
At present, there is a counter at the municipal office for tax collection.
