Staff Reporter
SANGAREDDY: As part of addressing the problems poor in urban areas, more particularly in slums, efforts are on to establish Town Level Federations (TLFs) in five municipal limits – Medak, Sangareddy, Siddipet, Sadasivapet and Zaheerabad – of Medak district. The programme taken up as part of Mission for Elimination of Poverty in Municipal Areas (MEPMA). The TLFs will coordinate the functioning of the SLFs. Members from the Slum Level Federation (SLFs) would be the members in the TLFs who would hold the responsibility like that of institution building, bank linkage and community based recovery mechanism.
The officials of MEPMA had already formed 107 SLFs in these five municipalities. These are instrumental in implementing the scheme of Urban Self Employment Programme (USEP) where unemployed were offered to commence their own businesses. Only those recommended by the SLFs are eligible to get loan under USEP.
During last year, out of the total 202 sanctions, only 100 were grounded. The delay was attributed to not submitting utilisation certificates by the concerned authorities.
The authorities are unable to verify the launching of schemes under USEP and obtain the utility certificates as at field level there was a vacancy of Livelihood Specialist post.
