TNSTC town buses to stop in front of Corporation’s new building from Friday
TNSTC, Vellore, has agreed to stop all town buses
proceeding towards Vellore and Katpadi in front of the new building of
the Vellore Corporation on Infantry Road with effect from Friday,
according to a note from P. Karthiyayini, Mayor of Vellore.
The
town buses were stopping in front of the erstwhile Municipal
Travellers’ Bungalow (in which site the new Corporation building is now
located) for several years.
But in recent years, the
buses were regularly stopping at the turning in front of Ladies
Recreation Club, causing traffic snarls in view of the vehicles turning
left from Anna Salai to Infantry Road and detention of traffic at this
junction whenever a bus stops to pick up passengers.
The
Mayor said that following request from the pubic to revive the bus stop
in front of the new Corporation building, she requested the general
manager of TNSTC to ensure that the buses stop in front of the building,
and the latter agreed to do so from Friday.
The
Corporation had also evicted private travels’ vehicles parked in front
of the Corporation building to facilitate the waiting of passengers at
the bus stop.
Ms. Karthiyayini told
The Hindu
that the space vacated by the travels’ vehicles would soon be converted into a park.
