Staff Correspondent
TUMKUR: The Government’s efforts at upgrading the Tumkur City Municipal Council into a City Corporation has again, for the fifth time in the last two decades, hit a roadblock with the civic body’s elected members passing a resolution against the move at its general body meeting here on Monday.
Tarunesh (Congress), and K.P. Mahesh (BJP) raised the issue. Thirty five members of the council supported Mr. Tarunesh and Mr. Mahesh. Even M.P. Mahesh, president of the council, who presided over the meeting, approved of the two members. Mr. Tarunesh said the Census is due next year (2011) and the Government could not take any decision based on 2001 Census.
Although, N.R. Adarsha Kumar, Commissioner of Tumkur Development Authority, tried to explain the issue, he was shouted down by members.
