‘UGD project will be completed before 2013 in Erode’

ERODE: The underground drainage project of Erode town is expected to be completed before 2013, Collector T. Soundiah has said.

Flagging off an awareness rally organised by the Erode Corporation
here on Tuesday, the Collector said that the State government had
sanctioned over Rs. 200 crore for implementing the project. The civic
administration is executing the project in five phases.
Works listed in the first three phases are now being carried out.
Works listed under the remaining two phases will commence shortly.
Rally
Steps had been taken up to speed up the implementation of the project, the Collector said.
A large number of students and civic officials participated in the rally.
The primary objective of the rally was to create awareness among
people on sanitation and the proper usage of underground drainage
facilities.
Slogans
Participants raised slogans urging the people not to dump solid waste
in the sinks and toilets, which would cause blockages in the drainage
pipes.
They asked the people to co-operate with the civic administration to keep the town neat and tidy.
The rally passed through important thoroughfares in Erode town. Mayor
Kumar Murugesh, Commissioner Balachandran and senior officials were
present.
