Unauthorised banners, hoardings removed
In a joint operation, Revenue and Corporation officials
removed 800 banners and unauthorised hoardings in the city and its
suburbs on Monday.
Following complaints, Collector
Anshul Mishra had directed the officials to take stock of unauthorised
banners and other advertisement materials in the city and the
peripheries. Based on their reports, the Collector formed eight teams,
each comprising seven Corporation and seven Revenue employees.
The
drive, which commenced in the morning, went on till 6 p.m. and was
expected to continue for the next three days, an official, who was part
of the team, said.
In thickly-populated areas, they
were put up on walkways, thus gobbling carriage space, besides proving
dangerous to road users. The banners and hoarding were removed at Periyar
bus stand, Goripalayam, Sellur Road, Aruppukottai Road, Andalpuram,
Arasaradi, Theni Road and Viratipatthu in the city limits. In town
panchayats, 14 such banners were removed from Paravai, Alanganallur,
Vadipatti and Sholavandan. The Collector had warned of stern action
against repeat offences and advertisers who violated the laws.
