Unauthorised structures removed in Erode
The drive was launched following widespread complaints from the public
Erode Corporation along with revenue department has
launched a drive to remove the encroachments that are eating into road
space and government lands at Surampatty area of Erode town on Thursday.
The
drive was launched following widespread complaints from the public that
the encroachments that flank inner roads of led to traffic congestion.
Residents
said that many business establishments occupied the edges of the roads
and government lands. A few establishments had even constructed concrete
structures on the State Highways and Erode Corporation lands to extend
their business area. A textile processing unit had constructed a wall
and other structures by occupying the government land in Sangu Nagar.
As
complaints started to pour in from the public, the civic administration
instructed the officials to launch a drive to remove these
encroachments.
A team of officials from the civic
body and the revenue department along with police personnel visited the
inner roads at Surampatty area and cleared the encroachments. The
personnel removed unauthorised structures and display materials put up
on the roads.
