The Union government has withdrawn its Public Interest Litigation
(PIL) seeking to quash the BBMP decision to sanction the construction of
a 16-storey residential apartment adjacent to Defence Research and
Development Organisation (DRDO) complex, which allegedly poses security
threat to the organisation.
The division bench gave liberty to the
petitioner to withdraw the PIL challenging the BBMP’s decision and file
a fresh writ petition as it does not come under the PIL category.
The
counsel representing the Ministry of Defence contended that high-rise
buildings in the vicinity of the DRDO complex would affect the safety
and security of the defence installation, exposing it to terrorists and
security threats.
