Urban Development Authority likely for Chittoor
In yet another Chittoor-centric move by the Kiran Kumar
Reddy government, measures are said to be underway to constitute an
‘Urban Development Authority’ for the burgeoning Chittoor town (CHUDA)
to augment its civic amenities.
According to sources,
the government recently asked District Collector of Chittoor to prepare
a detailed blue-print on the proposal, which if materialises is
expected to have under its ambit besides Chittoor, three other
contiguous constituencies viz; Puthalapattu, G.D. Nellore and Palamaner
for a comprehensive and planned development of the whole area.
It
was only last month that the government upgraded the status of the
border town to that of a Municipal Corporation, keeping in view its
increasing civic and developmental needs.
Besides,
plans are also afoot to bifurcate the huge district spanning about 400
km and spread over 66 mandals into two districts, by carving out a
separate district – Balaji District, with Tirupati as the head quarters
to facilitate ‘administrative convenience’ – as the size of the district
hampered its balanced development, besides posing certain serious
problems to the district authorities vis a vis protocol duties because
of frequent visits of VVIPs.
