Urban governance expo opens

A three-day exhibition and conference, ‘Municipalika 2011′, attended
by mayors, municipal commissioners and senior urban development
officials from the Central and State Governments, began here on
Thursday.
The conference, inaugurated by the Karnataka Chief Minister, Mr B. S.
Yeddyurappa, will deliberate over technologies for waste water
management and recycling, environment protection and pollution control.
It will also look at issues of urban infrastructure, safety and
security, and affordable housing, a press statement issued by the Good
Governance India Foundation said.
Mayors, municipal commissioners and senior urban development
officials from Central Governments, State Governments and urban local
bodies are expected to participate in the event.
The leading partner organisations of the event are the Bhopal
Municipal Corporation (Partner City), the US Department of Energy and
Cisco (Associate Sponsors) and Autodesk (Knowledge Partners).
While the largest contingent of delegates is from Karnataka, Madhya
Pradesh, Chhattisgarh and Jharkhand have sent large official
delegations. The release said a number of delegates had arrived from
Uttar Pradesh, Gujarat, Maharashtra and Kerala to participate in the
event.
Apart from Central Government support for the programme, some of the
other organisations involved are the All-India Institute of Local
Self-Government and the City Managers’ Association of Karnataka.
