‘Vacant posts in municipalities to be filled soon’

MACHILIPATNAM: The State government will fill one third of the total
number of vacant posts in the municipalities’ soon, according to
Minister for Municipal Administration and Urban Development M. Maheedhar
Reddy.
Reviewing the activities in the municipalities of Pedana, Gudivada
and Nuzvid with the officials concerned here on Tuesday, the Minister
stressed the need to pay attention to safe drinking water, sanitation
facilities and proper maintenance of street lights.
As Machilipatnam municipality was facing the threat of submergence
during every rainy season, he said that a proper plan should be prepared
with the coordination of Revenue, Irrigation and Municipal
Administration departments. Mr. Reddy said that all employees who had
been assigned duties in the field should go to the field for better
discharge of duties. “Till now municipal employees used to work for long
years at one place, but in the future the Government will make changes
to this system,” he said. The Minister instructed the officials to clear
all pending BPS applications before the December 31 deadline. He said
Chief Minister N. Kiran Kumar Reddy will inaugurate “100 days Hyderabad”
campaign on January 1 and a similar programme to look into the problems
will be launched in every municipality. The municipal officers
concerned were quizzed by the Minister on how the funds released under
the Twelfth Finance Commission were spent, about penalisation of
constructions that violate the municipal norms and regarding commercial
establishments. He ordered all the officials to remove unauthorised
water connections before January 20. Machilipatnam MLA Perni
Venkataramaiah (Nani), Joint Collector Gaurav Uppal, IKP Urban Project
Director K. Shivashankar Rao were present.
